3D Group helps Fortune 50 retailer significantly increase use of feedback

Challenge: A Fortune 50 retailer needed to correct inefficiencies in its 360 Degree Feedback program and provide more effective developmental feedback to its executives, managers, and technical professionals.

Solution: 3D Group designed and implemented a fully customized, 360 Degree Feedback system for employees worldwide. Utilizing both web-based and paper surveys for nearly 3,500 leaders, 3D Group slashed report processing time in half. In addition to supporting individual employee development with detailed, personalized feedback reports, 3D Group partnered with the client's Organizational Effectiveness and IT groups to seamlessly integrate results into a succession planning system.

Results: Compared to the previous 360-degree program, 3D Group's process produced higher levels of feedback utilization and development planning, wider implementation of skill improvement activities, and increased communication of feedback results. Because of its overwhelming acceptance within the company, the program has been expanded to include all corporate leaders. 

Board Chairman sets development priorities using feedback tools

Challenge: The board of directors at a national insurance company sought performance feedback for the board as a whole as well as for individual directors. The board's Governance Committee was interested in an assessment process that would help the board to prioritize activities for the coming year as well as identify development needs to guide director selection. In addition, the Chairman of the Board wanted to provide directors with individual feedback to facilitate his annual discussions with each one about their performance and potential opportunities for development.

Solution: Using 3D Group's board assessment tools, each director provided feedback on the functioning of the board as a group and on the performance of individual members. A Board Effectiveness Profile report identifying the board's strengths and development needs was distributed to all directors. 3D Group facilitated a discussion of the findings and helped the board to set specific goals for the next fiscal year. Each board member received a confidential Director Feedback Assessment report identifying his or her strengths and development needs. Copies of every Director Feedback Assessment report were given to the Chairman.

Results: The Board Effectiveness Profile identified several specific skill areas that the board lacked. This information was used to guide the selection of a replacement for a retiring board member. The Director Feedback Assessments were used by the Chairman to set board development and education priorities.

Arts education nonprofit uses program evaluation to sustain funding

Challenge: A small nonprofit arts education organization needed to evaluate the effectiveness of its program to meet grant requirements and obtain feedback for program development. The organization hoped to use the evaluation results to make program improvements and secure future funding.

Solution: 3D Group was able to offer the client a cost-effective evaluation design by combining a standard evaluation tool with select program observations and interviews with key staff and participants. The evaluation report provided a summary of the program and the findings from the evaluation, including program strengths and development opportunities.

Results: The evaluation feedback resulted in several program improvements. What's more, the organization continued to receive funding during a period of severe funding cuts for similar programs in the state.
