Leadership Navigator® for Executive Directors
360 degree feedback is a leadership development process used by Fortune 500 companies to help executives find out how well—or how poorly—they are performing and use this information to improve their performance. 3D Group brings the power of this leadership development tool to senior executives in the non-profit sector. With 3D Group’s ED360 process, Executive Directors not only learn about their strengths as leaders and their development needs, they also get the coaching and tools they need to turn their feedback into success right away!

Assessment Overview: Leadership Navigator™
At the beginning of the ED360 process, a 3D Group Coach works with your Executive Director to choose individuals inside and outside the organization to provide survey ratings. Individuals who are the most familiar with the ED’s behavior at work are carefully selected, and usually include direct reports, members of the Board, and staff members the ED works with on a regular basis. In addition, the process may include vendors, client-partners, fundraisers, customers, and consultants. Each of these “raters” completes 3D Group’s comprehensive ED360 survey and the ED completes a “Self Survey” for later comparison to others’ ratings. Ratings are completed anonymously; names are not listed or requested on the survey itself. Each rater returns the completed survey to 3D Group for secure and confidential processing.
Report
After data is collected and processed, the 3D Group Coach reviews the report, delivers a copy to your ED, and plans for the coaching session. This comprehensive, full-color ED360 report is comprised of four sections:
- Overview
This two-page summary displays an overall comparison of ratings of each of the 12 competencies across rater groups. The color-coded graphic provides for a quick overview of the ED’s clear strengths and development needs based on 3D Group’s ED360 competency model.
- Competency Breakout Pages
This section details ratings for each question within each of the 12 competencies. Overall ratings from each rater group, including direct reports and board members, are displayed for each question and for the overall competency.
- Top Strengths and Development Needs
This page displays the 10 highest-rated behaviors as well as the 10 lowest-rated behaviors. Knowledge of those specific items given the highest and lowest ratings allows for more insightful and accurate interpretation of the ratings and enhances the meaningfulness of the entire report.
- Narrative Comments
Written comments regarding both strengths and development needs are collected from each rater and reported verbatim. These lend greater insight to the numerical ratings and contribute to more meaningful coaching and action planning.
Coaching & Development Planning
A 3D Group Coach leads your Executive Director through an explanation of the feedback in the report. This process includes interpretation of the results, clarification of the ED’s feelings and reactions to the feedback, and discussion of activities that will leverage strengths detailed in the report and address areas of concern. Your Executive Director may elect to continue coaching discussions and monitor progress toward development goals and action plans. In addition, 3D Group Coaches may facilitate feedback and action planning sessions involving direct reports, staff members, and board members.
