Leadership Workshop Series Announced

October 20, 2008 (Berkeley, CA) – Leadership Workshop Series Announced - 3D Group, a consulting firm with a long history of building leadership among large and small companies, announced the availability of seven new workshops for leaders. The inspiration for the workshops came from a review of feedback from thousands of employees that suggested leaders still lack basic skills. The review of data found that areas such as Communication, Delegation, Teamwork, and Managing Conflict were among the most common problems where leaders struggle. 3D Group announced seven workshops focusing on these core areas of leadership: Communication, Delegation, Mentoring, Teamwork, Time Management, Managing Conflict, and Performance Management.

Dr. Dale S. Rose, President of 3D Group said “It isn’t surprising that leaders continue to need improvement in the most basic areas of leadership – leading people effectively is not intuitive to most people, it requires a great deal of thoughtful development. The good news is that these skills can be developed.” 3D Group chose these seven topics based on a review of results from over 50 companies across more than a dozen industries who recently used the Leadership Navigator 360-degree feedback survey. These data clearly showed that leader’s biggest needs were in areas related to managing people, particularly in areas related to setting boundaries for others (Conflict, Performance Management), helping others work more effectively (Mentoring and Teamwork) and self management (Managing time and Delegating work).

The workshops are being offered onsite for companies who have 8 to 16 managers who could benefit from these skills. Each workshop lasts four hours, with a maximum of four workshops in two days. The company plans to offer the workshops in a public venue in early 2010. John Diller, one of the 3D Group workshop facilitators said “We have found that more than 4 topics in two days is just overwhelming for leaders. They go back to work with a list of actions and a clear game plan for applying the skills, but there is only so much you can change at once with any hope of success.”

Early indications from the workshops suggest that managers have found quick and direct ways to apply the lessons they learned. One of the early participants from a large energy company from the North East said “I had a situation of conflict that occurred Tuesday right after the workshop and I was able to use my training to resolve it smoothly. This has happened many times in the past with the same person, but this time I dealt with it. Thanks!” Participants particularly enjoy the interactive nature of the workshops and the fact that the very first discussion revolves around the topic ‘how is this going to help us improve as a company’ so everyone knows the relevance of the topic in business terms from the very start. According to Dr. Rose, “these workshops provide an important component for 3D Group’s overall leadership effectiveness program. We typically assess leaders using 360-degree feedback and then we coach them individually on their results, but now with these workshops we can provide an interactive group-based method of learning that reaches more people and leverages peer-based learning which can be very powerful.”
